Name is Captain Cook and no, it isn’t my real name. My family and I love to boat on Grand Lake in NE Oklahoma. We boat around the lake, tie up with others, swim, tube, fish, and just hang out with the crowd. Have fun.
I’ve been on Grand since 2002. We bought our first boat in 2009, sold it, and bought our current model in 2016. Just like all other boaters, we’re here for fun and laughs. We take the kids out, pull them around the tube, and then head to a cove and swim.
Then—as the day grows—kids grow hungry and we have to make a choice. Do we stop the fun, pull up the ropes, and travel twenty minutes or so to a dockside restaurant? And then take an hour to eat. (Not fun, if you ask me)
OR we can…
- Bring food on the boat and enjoy a light lunch?
- Order pizza via phone? (but you still have to pull up everything and go after it.)
- Or, do you just have snacks like fruit and/or junk food?
NO
I started this blog to share ideas with other boaters, keep the fun on the water going, and show others what I do to keep bellies full. I really hope this takes off and readers can share meal ideas with everyone.
Everyone gets discombobulated on boats. We throw our bags just anywhere that’s out of the way and then scramble later seeking what we need. Boats need to be organized to an extent. Why can’t you organize the galley? I hope to share what we do to keep things organized.
Why can’t you prepare meals on the boat?
And that is why I created this blog.
I’m no Chef. I have no formal training, but I do enjoy cooking and eating. (Who doesn’t, right?) I hope to share a few meals that I’ve prepared on my boat and maybe, spark some creativity in your own adventures on the lake. If you’re like us and want to maximize time on the water and not push the pause button for lunch, follow me as we try to cook meals on the water.
Open to all suggestions. If you have a favorite family meal you prepare on your boat, please share.
